MARION – The Osceola County Sheriff’s Department has issue a report this week of a body being found during the investigation of a fire.
Deputies report that around 4:40 a.m. on Saturday, Osceola County Sheriff Deputies were called along with Osceola County EMS and Marion Fire/Rescue to the Cadillac Woods Campground, 23163 M-115 Hwy, Highland Township, for a report of a camper trailer on fire with possibly an older male subject inside.
Witnesses said the rear half of the camper was fully engulfed.
Fire personnel arrived and put out the fire and then, located a body inside the camper. Investigators determined the body to be 53 year old Jeanette Marie Whitenton, formerly of Oxford, Michigan.
Deputies say she had been staying at the campground with her husband for approximately a week. Whitenton’s husband, who was residing at the campground with her, was not in the area at the time of the fire.
The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal conducted an investigation as to the cause of the fire. While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, it is not believed to be suspicious as of this time.
The Osceola County Sheriff is continuing its investigation.
The Osceola County Sheriff Office was assisted on scene by Marion Fire/Rescue, Osceola County EMS, Michigan State Police Fire Marshal, and Meceola Central Dispatch.
