MARION – Marion Eagles varsity boys basketball team and coachDan Michell were able to complete a very productive summer.

Michell said the team competed in the Alma one-day team camp, Ferris one-day team camp, and scrimmaged with Manton, Gladwin and Houghton Lake.

“As a team we were able to get in 11 competitive games,” Michell said.

Marion’s participation was very impressive.

“We had good commitment from seniors Quinn Scott and Camden Powell, junior J.P. Williams and sophomore Cayden McCrimmon, who made all 11 games,” Michelle said. “JP and Cayden were also at all five days of individual skill camps – I don’t believe they have missed a date this summer. Contributing this summer as well were seniors Gavin Prielipp, Gage Baker, Junior Maverick Nealy, sophomore Collin McCrimmon, freshmen Cameron Prielipp and Peyton Wirik. Also helping fill a light roster was eighth grader Chase McCrimmon. Out with a shoulder injury was senior Braden Prielipp.”

There some new wrinkles this summer.

“Our JV and junior high were in a three-team league for three weeks so they were able to get in six games each as well,” Michell said. “We also hosted our annual Marion Basketball Camp and new this year we hosted a two-day Huffman Basketball Camp.

“Summer is a great time to get the guys out playing and see who is improving and what roles they may be able to fit in for the upcoming season – just another opportunity to get in the gym and get better and evaluate where we are at. We face some of the same hurdles every school does with participation – some work, some have other sporting camps, some are recovering from injury and some choose not to be present. We take who we have and we get better.”
