The Allegan boys tennis team came away with a pair of flight championships at its home invitational on Saturday, Sept. 16.
The No. 1 doubles team of Jackson Morrie/Cole Muenzer and the No. 4 doubles team of Joe Sosnowski/Ely Barnhart each finished the day at 3-0 to finish atop the flight standings.
As a team, the Tigers—ranked fourth in Division 4—placed third with 13 points. Chelsea (ranked fourth in Division 3) won the tournament with 19 points, while Ludington (ranked fifth in Division 4) was second with 16 points.
Lakeshore (10 points), Portage Northern (eight) and Paw Paw (six) placed fourth through sixth, respectively.
“There was a lot of good competition across the board, which makes for a great Saturday,” Allegan coach Damien Arthur said.
Allegan played the tournament with subs at No. 3 doubles, while No. 4 singles Ezra Smith suffered an injury that limited him to one match for the day.
In addition to its two flight titles, Allegan had two third-place showings: No. 2 singles Gavin Clark and No. 3 singles Silas Neldon.
No. 2 doubles Nate Kuebler/Adam Mozery was fourth for Allegan, while No. 3 doubles Oliver Burnett/Noah Kuebler was fifth.
On Thursday, Sept. 14, the Tigers traveled to Buchanan for a SAC/Lakeland showdown with Buchanan and came away with the 8-0 sweep.
Winning singles matches for Allegan were: No. 1 Evan Eichbauer (6-2, 6-2); No. 2 Clark (6-1, 6-1); No. 3 Neldon (6-3, 6-4); and No. 4 Smith (7-6 (3), 6-0).
The Tigers’ winners at doubles were: No. 1 Morrie/Muenzer (6-1, 6-1); No. 2 Nate Kuebler/Mozery (6-0, 6-1); No. 3 Burnett/Carson Williams (6-1, 6-0); and No. 4 Barnhart/Sosnowski (6-0, 6-0).
