After the recent snowstorm, Christmas seems much closer, so it is no surprise that Allegan’s businesses are geared up for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday sales on Nov. 25-26.
Here is a sampling of what’s on offer.
Businesses that have been promoting their sales this weekend include Let It Grow (136 Brady) and their Hygge Market, The Sassy Olive (125 Locust) and their Pink Saturday Sale, and Board and Brush (116 Locust) with Black Friday and Small Business Saturday Workshops.
“We’ve had very good Small Business Saturdays in the past with lots of support,” said Cindy Kurtz of Hathaway Cottage (111 Locust). In addition to 30% off one item, they have some new products and services. They now carry Woodstock chimes, pet and human memorials and can customize laser cut wooden ornaments and wooden family trees, glass items such as shot and canning glasses and any beverage mugs. Hot chocolate will also take the chill off shoppers.
At Sharon’s Quilts (118 Locust) all Christmas fabric will be 25% off, and a variety of ready-made quilted gifts is on display.
Looking for something for a furry friend? This will be the first Black Friday and Small Business Saturday for Beyond Bones (219 Hubbard), and Lisa Roussin is “hoping for a good holiday season.” They will be having a sale to celebrate the season with 25% off all toys and buy 2 get 1 free Beyond Bones treats.
Down the street, Riverfront Nutrition (239 Hubbard) will have some tasty treats for humans and A Tech (311 Hubbard) plans to have some specials as well.
Something Sweet (109 Locust) has a unique item to lure shoppers in this year: Lindt advent calendars, wooden trees with slots in which to place Lindt truffles. They will also have in-store specials on other items. “The community is always so good to us,” Trisha Winter noted.
Tardy’s Underground Comics & Collectibles (228 ½ Trowbridge) is also excited about their first Black Friday and Small Business Saturday in their Allegan location and will have special sales on a variety of products on both days.
Flippin’ Vintage (136 Brady) will have extended hours and markdowns throughout the shop.
Before heading to the big box stores, shoppers should check out local options. “Our prices on Lazy Boy furniture are very competitive,” said Joel Tamandl at Country House Furniture (212 Trowbridge). They will match any Lazy Boy offer although sometimes their prices are lower.
“This is our best sale of the year,” said Tom Dalm of Morgan Appliances (121 Locust). He says on average shoppers will find $100-200 off GE appliance such as refrigerators and washing machines. “We have to be competitive,” he observed.
Area artists are also preparing for a great weekend. Photographer Babette Burleigh will be doing a gallery takeover at Brave Art Studio (1873 Lincoln Rd.) on both days. The work of other artists will also be available.
Cherry Tree Art Studio (2906 34th Street) will be open for Small Business Saturday from 10 – 6 pm. Sara Glupker plans to include a make-and-take holiday themed art project and will release her annual holiday print. Her holiday notecards and 2023 calendar will also be available along with other work.
Tantrick Brewing Co. (243 Hubbard) is extending the weekend’s activities in downtown with their Small Brewery Sunday with a Music Bingo Marathon, and Mug Club Members get double Tantrick Tokens with a Bingo.
