The Allegan girls tennis team hosted its annual Early Bird Invitational on Saturday, March 25, as the Tigers welcomed Coopersville and Grand Haven to town.
And while Allegan came away with wins in both of its matches, the victories were a bit different in nature.
The Tigers cruised past Coopersville 8-0 and prevailed 5-3 in a highly competitive showdown with Grand Haven.
Winners for Allegan against Grand Haven included Addy Fales at No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-1), Bristyn Neldon at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-1), Mac Morrie at No. 4 singles (7-5, 6-3), Hailey Fuller/Emma Kuebler at No. 1 doubles (6-3, 6-4) and Ragan Meeter/Grace Davis at No. 2 doubles (6-1, 6-3).
Two of the three flights Allegan lost—Grace Clearwater at No. 1 singles and Luna Ruiz/Taylor Fuller at No. 3 doubles—went three sets.
Against Coopersville, the Tigers won all of the flights in two sets with the exception of No. 4 doubles as Hanna Kievit/Madison Cook won 6-4, 2-6, 10-7.
The other flight wins for Allegan were:
Singles: No. 1 Clearwater (6-4, 6-1); No. 2 Fales (6-0, 6-1); No. 3 Neldon (6-1, 6-0); and No. 4 Morrie (6-1, 6-0).
