MARION – The village of Marion last week had a special meeting to discuss the 2023/24 budget.
The 2023/24 budget must be voted on and adopted at the February meeting to be in place by the start of the fiscal year of March 1,” council president Flora Grundy said.
“We discussed several areas and projects that we would like to see budgeted for this next year such as, crack seal coating for the streets, maintenance and improvements at the park, new sidewalk, software program for the campground, etc.,” Grundy said. “At that meeting we also discussed and voted on a resolution to authorize matching funds for the Dam Risk Reduction Grant Program.
“The Village was selected to receive 1.4 million dollars for improvements to the dam but had to commit to matching $302,500 to move forward with the grant application. The resolution was not passed with a tie vote of 3 to 3. There were concerns with the village committing that much money at this time and the grant money would only be able to be used to do repairs for the dam and spillways and not clean up and restore the lake.”
Grundy said the Village will look at applying again next year for the 2023/24 grant cycle. She added the next regular meeting is on Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. with a special meeting for discussion on the budget beginning at 6:45 p.m.
