Marion seeks to become district library

MARION – The Marion Village Council had a regular meeting earlier this month to hear a presentation on the library seeking to become a district library.
“The group working on this was at the meeting to give a presentation on the process and to ask for the Village of Marion’s support,” council president Flora Grundy said. “It is quite a process to become a District Library and they are in the beginning stages of making this happen.
“Also, the library has been offering some fun programs such as movie night and will also be hosting a program on Adult Mental Health First Aide Training.”
Grundy said anyone wishing to contact the library for more information on all of the things the library is offering such as the classes, becoming a district library, etc., can contact Sara Genereaux-Maddox at (231) 743-2421.
In other matters, Grundy noted there were 9 cameras installed in the park and fairground areas.
“There has been some vandalism and theft recently in those areas so the cameras will be helpful to detour and/or catch the vandals,” she said.
Grundy added: “We have been meeting monthly with the engineers for the DWSRF water project. Currently we are on schedule to get started in the fourth quarter of this year.”
