Gilkey robotics team shines in Grandville

GRANDVILLE—A pair of students from Plainwell’s Gilkey Elementary School had a day to remember at the Grandville Holiday VEX Robotics Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 7.
Mason Potts and Jackson Stull—known collectively as The Gearheads—finished second out of 43 teams, earning multiple accolades along the way.
The Gearheads were seeded first after eight qualifying rounds, thereby earning their place in the championship round.
In addition to earning second place for the Teamwork Award, Potts and Stull also took home the Build Award. This award recognizes a team’s ability to implement an effective and efficient robot design process.
The Gearheads are coached by Joe Potts.
