Obituary: Edmundo Sanchez, 82

Dr. Edmundo Utanes Sanchez, MD, age 82, met with our Heavenly Father on Saturday, Dec/ 17, 2022.
He was born in Manila, Philippines to Walterio Vicente Sanchez and Eustachia Utanes Sanchez on Dec. 26, 1939. He was the eldest of 9 children.
He graduated Uson National High School, then went on to earn his medical degree from University of Santo Tomas in Manila in 1958.  He returned to his hometown of Uson and served as the Medical Public Health Officer.
He fell in love and married Nella Ribas Quisumbing who also resided in Uson. They moved to the United States to complete his residencies in Pediatrics in Washington, D,C., and General Surgery in Bronx, N.Y.
He began his practice in Tawas City, then settled in Saugatuck-Douglas in 1975. He devoted himself to caring for thousands of patients in the lakeshore community for close to 40 years. He was a devoted, loving husband, father, and brother.
He was preceded by death by his wife of 54 years, Nella; parents, and a brother and sister. He was proud of and is survived by his children, Suzette, Edmund (Barbara), and Peter (Renee); grandchildren, Isabelle, Katie, Lucas, Allison, and Jenna. He also has several siblings and relatives across the United States and Philippines.
He enjoyed singing, dancing, golfing, fishing, tennis, games of Mahjong, casino trips and cooking. He couls belt out a mean “My Way” by Frank Sinatra or Elvis Presley songs. He was singing a tune and dancing the actual moment his wife passed.
His legacy in serving his community reigns on and his family honors him. How appropriate are the final lyrics he would sing, “I did it my way.”
