Obituary: John Paul Haley

John Paul Haley, age 76, of Harrison passed away Monday, November 28, 2022, at MyMichigan Health-Midland. John was born January 20, 1946 in Flint, Michigan the son of Thomas James Haley and Julia Carolyn (Bielawa) Haley. John graduated from Harrison High School in 1963. Upon his high school graduation, John enlisted in the United States Army and honorably served his country during the Vietnam War Era. John was united in marriage to Ms. Therese Roseann Soyring on May 26, 1972 in Harrison. Mr. Haley spent 32 years with the Teamsters Local 406 and 12 years with the Operating Engineers Local 324 he also served many years on the Franklin Township Board of Review.
Mr. Haley was passionate about mowing his lawn and maintaining his yard. He also enjoyed being a “gentleman farmer”, plowing snow, reading, hunting, fishing trips with his family and friends, going to the casino and attending all his grandchildren’s sporting events and school functions.
Surviving John is his wife of 50 years, Mrs. Therese Roseann Haley of Harrison, five children: Tanya Bork of Mount Pleasant, Joe Haley and wife Renee of Harrison, Shannon Haines and husband Theron of Harrison, Michael Haley and wife Tara of Gladwin, and Joni Ashcroft and husband Joe of Harrison, 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren. One sister, Jane Kipp of Harrison, one half-sister, Donna Robinson, and husband Rob of Evart, one half-brother, Robert Cobleigh of Harrison, two stepsisters: Gloria Gamble and husband Ken of Harrison and Sharon Cobleigh of Evart, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family members. John was preceded in death by his parents, step-father, Donald Cobleigh, one sister, Judith Haley and two brothers: Joe Haley and Jim Haley.
A Funeral Mass celebrating John will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. from St. Athanasius Catholic Church, 310 South Broad St., Harrison with Rev. Father J. Marcel Portelli officiating. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 9, 2022 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:00 p.m. A second visitation will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until time of Mass. Burial and Military Honors will immediately follow Mass at Maple Grove Cemetery, Harrison.
John was a lifelong Harrison Hornet and especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports, in lieu of flowers, family has requested memorial gifts to be considered to: Harrison Sports Boosters.
