June LaVerne Krug, 84 of Hopkins, Michigan, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, November 28, 2022, at Briarwood Assisted Living in Allegan, Michigan. Born February 15, 1938 in Patoka, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Charles Davis and Minerva Elliott Wilson Davis. In 1946, June’s family moved her to Hopkins, Michigan where she graduated from Hopkins High School Class of 1956. She met and married Walter Krug on August 31, 1957 and they went on to have three children together. Unfortunately, Walter passed in 2006, leaving June to learn to continue without him. She spent 29 years as the food service supervisor for the Hopkins Public Schools. June was a member of the Hopkins Community Church, Hopkins Lions Club (where she was the first female president), president of the Hopkins Community Recreation Committee, 4th of July parade director for 32 years, president of the Hopkins Alumni Association for 38 years, charter member of Allegan Draft Horse Club 4-H leader for three years, cheerleading coach for 11 years, Booster Club and concession worker for 40 years, and was also a substitute bus driver. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting mittens, sewing, playing golf and bowling. She was also an avid reader. June was known as a great cook, baker and cake decorator. Her favorite hobby, and one she took great pride in, was entering her canned and baked goods into the Allegan County Fair and collecting over 1000 ribbons for her efforts. Being a mom, grandma and great-grandma brought her great joy and also gave her extra reasons to do all of her hobbies, providing food and mittens to her family. Her spunky personality and quick wit is already missed by those who loved her.
June leaves behind her three daughters, Beverly Areaux, Carrie Krug, and Amy (Steve) Pattillo; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles (Deel) Davis, Jr.; and three sisters, Joyce Jones, Carrie (John) Mulder, and Judy Kennedy.
Along with her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Omer Wilson, Lester Wilson, Bill Wilson, Bob Wilson and Russell Davis.
Friends may meet with the family on Friday, December 2, 2022, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Hopkins Community Church where the funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at 11:00 AM. Memorials may be made in June’s name to the Hopkins Fire Department, 200 E. Main Street, Hopkins, MI 49328 or Wings of Hope Hospice at 530 Linn Street, Allegan, MI, 49010. June will be buried next to her husband, Walter, in the Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins, Michigan. Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel, is assisting the family with arrangements.
