Elizabeth Ann Thompson, 84, of Saugatuck and formerly Edwardsburg and Sand Creek, passed to her rest at her home on Nov. 17, 2022.
She was born Nov. 17, 1938, in South Bend, Ind., the daughter of Edward James and Elma (Corl) Westfall and graduated from Edwardsburg Schools. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Arts degree from Western Michigan University.
In addition to teaching Home Economics, Consumer Economics and Home and Family Living, she enjoyed advising many student groups within the school system.
She was the Director of the Culinary Arts Program at the Allegan Area Career Center. She also enjoyed a unique experience as the Private Chef for Roger and Kathy Penske at Michigan International Speedway.
Never one to stop working she enjoyed being at American Spoon and Grin’s in downtown Saugatuck. She received the Lifetime Achievement Award with her induction into the Edwardsburg Schools Hall of Fame in 2016.
She was married Dec. 22, 1956 in Edwardsburg to Larry R. Thompson. They were blessed with three sons, Bob (Jill) Thompson of Edwardsburg, Rick (Ann) Thompson of Saugatuck and Jim (Jennifer) Thompson of Schoolcraft.
There are 4 grandchildren, Kara (Chuck) Williams, Krin (Etan) Klein, Wyatt Thompson and Ronan Thompson; and 3 great-grandchildren, Yoav, Dawson and Dacia Klein.
Family and friends may gather on Saturday, Nov. 26, from 10 a.m. till noon at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 W. Main Street, Edwardsburg. The Service of Remembrance will follow at noon. Officiating will be Pastor Chuck Winter of Battle Creek, a family friend, with interment following in Edwardsburg Cemetery on the family plot.
