On Thursday, Oct. 12, Nancy Carole Lucci, beloved sister, aunt,and cousin, passed away. She was 74.
Born to Nicholas and Eleanor (Solomon) Pestolis on Aug. 8,1948 in Sudbury, Ontario, she grew up in Traverse City and graduated from Traverse City High School in 1966.
After working as an administrative assistant in several jobs, she became a hairdresser in the late 1970s and continued in that profession until retirement. She was licensed in Colorado, California, and Michigan. She was married and divorced twice.
The love of Nancy’s life was her dog, Tom Cruze, with whom she shared her life for nearly 20 years.
Nancy was an avid lover of all animals, a liberal in her politics, and a huge fan of the Detroit Red Wings and the Detroit Lions. She enjoyed nature, hiking and camping. She was also interested in eating for health and was one of the founders in the ‘70s of the Oryana Food Co-Op, which is still in business.
Nancy is survived by her sisters, Nikki Pestolis of Port Angeles, Wash., and Christine J. Pestolis-McDuff of Holland; nephews Adam (Suzi) McDuff of Olympia, Wash., Michael McDuff of Medford, Ore., Nicholas McDuff of Chicago, and niece Abigail (Moses) Troyer of Westchester, Ill.; two grand-nieces and one grand-nephew, her uncle William Steininger of Saugatuck and many cousins – especially Nancy and Dan Solomon Pears of Boulder, Colo.
At Nancy’s request there were no services. A committal service will be held next summer in Saugatuck.
