The Clare volleyball team was able to get a home win in Division 2 district action on Monday. The Lady Pioneers were taking on Shepherd in both team’s district opener, and Clare was able to extend its season with a straight sets win, 25-15, 25-12 and 25-12.
“It was a good solid night of volleyball for everyone on the team,” head coach Shannon Taylor said.
Kyley Wyman had 10 kills, two digs, one assist and one ace, Abby Brown added 26 assists, five kills, two aces, one block and three digs and Ava Crowder chipped in by getting five kills, three assists, six digs and four aces.
The Pioneers also went to Boyne City on Saturday, to take part in an invitational, and final tune up before district action.
The Lady Pioneers split with Inland Lakes 25-14 and 21-25, split with Charlevoix 25-22 and 22-25, lost to Cheboygan 25-21 and 25-23, took down Forest Area 25-20 and 25-19 and ended the day with a loss to Gaylord St. Mary, 25-21 and 25-21.
“We had a great day at the tournament,” Taylor said. “The Boyne tournament is a great weekend of team bonding and working with our line ups to prepare everyone for our week at districts.”
On this day, Crowder had 21 kills, one block, 18 digs and three aces, Madeline Ryzyk had 10 kills, 16 digs and one ace, Brown contributed 66 assists, 19 kills, six aces, six blocks and 33 digs and Megan Farrell added one kill, 12 aces and 37 digs.
Clare took on Gladwin the district semi-finals on Wednesday, with the finals taking place on Thursday against Ogemaw Heights. The district winner moves on to Tuesday’s regional semi-final game in Gladwin.
