Douglas Police Chief Steve Kent updates city council monthly on department calls answered. During August 180 were in city limits, three not.
Noteworthy incidents, the Chief listed:
• At 9:55 Friday, Aug. 12, I (Kent) was dispatched to the 200 block of West Center Street in reference to a subject drinking in the parking lot. I had been made aware of the issue in a previous contact with the business owner. The subject had been hiding his alcoholism from family.
Subject was determined to be intoxicated, walked to a family residence and was trespassed from the business and property. I was contacted later by the subject’s spouse for more information.
At 2:59 a.m. Monday, Aug. 15, Corp. Lori Warsen received a be on the lookout for a possible intoxicated driver leaving Saugatuck city. She located and stopped the suspect vehicle on Blue Star Highway near Randolph Street.
After further investigation Cpl. Warsen arrested the 30-year-old male for Operating while Intoxicated and he was lodged at the county jail.
At 4:28 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, Corp. Mark Giles was dispatched to the 400 block of Wilson Drive for an oven fire in an occupied residence along with the Saugatuck Township Fire District. Upon arrival the fire was extinguished but the residence was filled with smoke.
At 4:38 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22 I was investigating a fraud complaint and was dispatched to the 100 block of South Blue Star Highway in reference to an intoxicated driver leaving the business. I cleared the complaint and checked extensively to the north and into the township however I was unable to locate the suspect and vehicle.
At 11:44 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24 Officer Tino Reyes was dispatched to a Child Abuse complaint in the 300 block of North Ferry Street. He investigated with Children’s Protective Services.
At 10:52 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, Corp. Giles was dispatched to the 300 block of South Blue Star Highway in reference to about 6 individuals fighting. Upon his arrival, the involved subjects all fled the scene on foot. Cpl. Giles received no contact regarding complaint(s) of assault and stayed on scene to assure of no further incident.
At 10:48 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24, Corp. Giles and Officer Dyer responded to the 400 block of West Drive and located a suspect on a warrant pick up. Suspect was charged with Assault with Intent to do Great Bodily Harm, Domestic Violence 3rd Offense and Habitual Offender. Suspect was lodged at the Allegan County Jail on all charges without incident.
This multiple felony warrant was obtained after Cpl. Giles’ continued investigation of the original incident from July 24.
Additionally in August the department responded to complaints about fraud c, check welfares, lost/found property, conservation, medical emergencies, motorist assists, parking, suspicious person-vehicle-situations, noise, malicious destruction of property, traffic crashes, fireworks intoxicated persons, trespassing, business and residential intrusion alarms, animal/animal bite/animal welfare complaints, neighbor and civil disputes, illegal dumping, ordinance violations, harassment, juveniles being delinquent, open doors, mental health and general public assistance.
