Obituary: James D. Manning

James D. Manning, 76, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at his home in Paw Paw, Sept. 11, 2022. Jim was born in Paw Paw on May 31, 1946.
He was a 1964 graduate of Paw Paw High School, and immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force. Following his return from the Air Force, Jim married the love of his life, Nancy (Martin) Manning. Together the couple started their family in Lawton, where Jim spent much of his time with service to the community. His service included the Lawton Fire Department, where he served as assistant chief and chief. Later in life, Jim and Nancy built a new home in Paw Paw, near his family’s Centennial Farm in Almena Township. Jim had a passion for flying which led him to the development of the Almena Airstrip. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golf. He retired from the Local 7 Sheet Metal Union. 
Along with his loving wife of 55 years, Jim is survived by his two children, Steven (Sheri) Manning and Lisa (Kip) DeVall; two grandchildren, Dylan DeVall and Dayton DeVall.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Darcy and Edna Manning; his sister, Marcia Madgyesi; and his grandson, Riley Manning. 
Services were held at the Almena United Methodist Church with the Rev. Len Schoenherr officiating. Burial took place at Almena Cemetery.
