Allegan Event announced that it would be removing the Zip Line from the Allegan Riverfront for use in an outdoor expansion to their Event Center on River Street in Allegan.
In 2017, Allegan Event entered into a partner with the City of Allegan as they began developing the Riverfront. The installation of the Zip Line across the Kalamazoo River was the Event Center’s contribution.
Customers from all over Michigan have experienced rolling over the river. The attraction along with the Perrigo Splash Pad were great jump starters for the city.
Not only does Liggettville, LLC own the Zip Line, but it operates Allegan Event Center. Owner Michelle Liggett shared, “Allegan Event is Michigan’s largest indoor ropes course. In 2019, the arcade, food and beverage, and party areas were added. In the 2022 summer season, Allegan Event opened the new Amazin’ Maze attraction. The response has been great and is another fun activity for the whole family.”
At this time, the team would like to expand the Zip Line’s capabilities. This will require more space than the Riverfront can offer. In its new location, the Zip Line will take on a new look and offer a wider variety of Zip experiences.
“Although we will miss the downtown vibe, the outdoor expansion plan at Allegan Event will allow us to have a unique indoor and outdoor family adventure experience that we can’t wait to share with everyone,” explained Liggett.
With the removal of the Zip Line towers, the City of Allegan will have opportunities to install other crowd pleasing activities that will enhance the Riverfront in new ways.
City Manager Joel Dye said, “In 2017, the city began partnering with Allegan Event to create a hub of activity in Allegan. We are thrilled by this global company that champions Allegan as its home and look forward to continuing to work with them in making Allegan a destination city.”
When queried on final designs for the new Zip Line, Liggett explained, “It will still be an outdoor attraction. I do not have any final designs or design concepts at this time.”
The Zip Line will be in action Friday, September 2nd through Labor Day, which is the traditional closing day for the season. Liggett does not have a date set for removal.
