Alice Louise Klaasen, age 89, of Overisel, passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at her home, with family by her side.
Alice was a passionate and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a member of Overisel Christian Reformed Church and enjoyed being involved, teaching Sunday School, participating in Bible studies, and singing with the congregation. Before marrying, she ran a blueberry farm for 10 years; following which, she spent many years as a homemaker. She was passionate about children from the time she babysat in her teens all the way to the end when she smiled at her great grandchildren a week before she passed. Some of her favorite activities included crafting with her children and grandchildren as well as scrapbooking. Her husband said she was the happiest person he ever knew.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin & Mable (Chapman) Brainard; her siblings: Leonard Hyett, Monroe & Mary Hyett, Betty Brainard, Earl & Clara Brainard, Ralph & Lorna Brainard, June & Ray Meiser, Gordon & Mary Brainard, and her siblings-in-law: Willis J. & Charlotte Klaasen, James Klaasen, Carol Klaasen, Joanne Klaasen, Harvin Klaasen.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Leon; her children: Lisa Klaasen, Shannon & Randy Kalmink, Jane Klaasen & Rocky Baker, Sally & Brian VanderVeen, Kristi & Steve Vande Wege, Todd & Carrie Klaasen; 17 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; siblings-in-law: Ronald & Erma Klaasen, Eileen Klaasen, and Donna Klaasen.
A funeral service honoring Alice will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Overisel Christian Reformed Church, 4724 142nd Avenue, Holland. A time of visitation will be held Tuesday, the evening prior from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State Street, Zeeland. Burial will take place in Overisel Cemetery.
