Obituary-Nola R. Geissel

Nola R. Geissel, age 97 of Kalamazoo, died on May 18, 2022. She was born on April 10, 1925, in Almena Township, Michigan, the daughter of Rellie and Lavina (Soloman) Masten. At her parent’s cider mill, Nola met the love of her life Emil Geissel. They were married on March 3, 1945, and shared 66 years, until his death. She cherished being a mother to her four children and later a grandmother. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed baking, and canned many foods. Nola handcrafted many beautiful things by crochet and sewing. She liked to read and tend to her beloved flower garden. Her and Emil loved to travel and later she liked road trips with her family. She had a passion for music and especially loved the hymns during her time as a member of the St. Michael’s Lutheran Church. Her family includes her children: Laura (Richard) Garnaat, Lester (Connie) Geissel, and Diana (Joe) Chase; her 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Doris Stermer and Roberta Geissel; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Emil, her son Thomas Geissel, her grandson Noah Garnaat, her sister, Floris (Dave) Schug and her brother Wilford Masten. Friends may visit with Nola’s family on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 3:00-5:00 PM at Langeland Family Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 411 East Centre Avenue, Portage. A funeral service will be held at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, 7211 Oakland Dr, Portage, MI 49024, on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Dr. Paul Naumann officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park, South. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Michael’s Lutheran Church.
