After suffering a loss against South Haven in its opening game of the season, the Saugatuck girls soccer team was hoping to break into the win column when it hosted Zion Christian on Friday, March 25.
And that’s exactly what the Trailblazers did.
Jenn Schock scored a pair of goals and the Saugatuck defense limited the scoring chances for Zion Christian as the Trailblazers posted the 2-1 victory to even their record at 1-1.
Erin Moerler and Lauren Miller each picked up an assist for Saugatuck.
In goal, Dayna Crough and Emma DeBoer combined to make two saves and shared credit for the victory.
Crough and DeBoer also shared time in goal when Saugatuck traveled to South Haven on Wednesday, March 23, and combined for six saves.
But the Saugatuck offense was unable to get in a rhythm as the Trailblazers suffered the 4-0 loss.
Fennville 1 South Haven 2
Like Saugatuck, Fennville opened its season with a road game against South Haven. And like the Trailblazers, the Blackhawks also came up short as they dropped the 2-1 decision.
Ellie Merson provided the lone goal for Fennville, with the assist going to Angelica Mendoza.
