Obituary: Joyce Carlisle

Joyce Carlisle, a lifetime resident of Mattawan, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2022. Her life began on Aug. 18, 1933, the daughter and second oldest child born to Lloyd and Iva Guiter.
She learned the value of hard work through chores that she was assigned while living on the family farm. She graduated from Mattawan High School and married Alfred Carlisle, whom she met in high school, on April 28, 1953. Joyce worked at several different banks and credit unions throughout the area and was proud to have worked her way up from bank teller to a branch manager. Her family and friends will remember her as an elegant lady who loved her family.
Members of her family include her husband, Alfred; her granddaughter, Michelle (Scott) Garland; her great-grandson, Dakota Carlisle (fiancée Taylor Krupianik); her daughter-in-law, Anna Carlisle; two brothers, Raymond (Janet) Guiter and Charles (Judy) Guiter; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her two children, Kenneth and Catherine Carlisle; and a brother, Ivan “Sonny” Guiter.
Please join us at a Life Story Service on Monday, Jan. 31, at 1 p.m. at Betzler Life Story Funeral Homes, 6080 Stadium Drive, Kalamazoo, (269) 375-2900. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service to share stories and food.
