Mattawan HS student performs at Carnegie Hall, and to perform at Royal Festival Hall

Mattawan High School musician, Hazel Arugaslan, was selected for the High School Honors Performance Series at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New Yok City, held Feb. 10. Arugaslan performed voice – alto with the Honors Concert Choir. She was also selected to perform with the Honors Choir at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England in July. Arugaslan was nominated by her Mattawan High School choir teacher, David Hook.

MATTAWAN – Mattawan High School musician, Hazel Arugaslan, was selected for the High School Honors Performance Series at the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New Yok City held Feb. 10.
Arugaslan’s name shone amidst only the highest-rated young performers from across the world, gracing the legendary Carnegie Hall stage. She performed voice – alto with the Honors Concert Choir. Arugaslan was also selected to perform with the Honors Choir at the Royal Festival Hall in London, England in July. She was nominated by her Mattawan High School choir teacher, David Hook.
Music has been Arugaslan’s passion throughout her school career, she is a member of the Mattawan High School Masters Choir and Kalamazoo Junior Symphony Orchestra. “I am honored to be selected and truly appreciate this amazing opportunity to learn from experts that know so much more about the world of music. I would like to come back from these experiences as a changed musician who could help the people back home also understand the gravity of music,” said Arugaslan.
Dreams had transformed into reality, years of dedicated practice and study culminating in this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The finalists came together in New York City where they had the opportunity to learn from world-renowned conductors, work with other performers, and get a taste of New York. The Honors Performance Series was created to showcase accomplished individual student performers on an international level by allowing them to study under master conductors and perform in world renowned venues. The Honors Performance Series is presented by WorldStrides, the nation’s leading educational travel organization.
Mattawan Consolidated School said in an announcement about Arugaslan, “We are so incredibly proud of Hazel, her family who support her dreams, and Mr. Hook for nominating and inspiring Hazel, and for coaxing the potential from every student performer.”
