THREE RIVERS — Three Rivers High School’s varsity football team will be in search of a new head coach for the 2024 season.

TRHS Athletic Director Matt Stofer confirmed in an email to the Commercial-News Thursday that current head coach Chris Gilliam will not return to the team for the 2024 season, and the school is in the process of beginning a search for a new head coach.

“It was in the administration’s decision to go in a different direction in the best interest of our football program,” Stofer said in the email.

Gilliam was hired by the school in April 2023 to replace longtime coach J.J. Wagner, who resigned after the 2022 season after 18 years as head coach. In his lone year as head coach, Gilliam’s Wildcats went 1-8 on the season and 1-6 in the Wolverine Conference, their lone win coming in a September 29 contest against Plainwell.

Gilliam had previously coached Birch Run High School for 19 years before becoming coach of Adrian High School for three seasons. He has a career win-loss record of 107-109 as of the end of 2023.
