Sturgis Area Chamber of Commerce hosted a job fair Wednesday at Youth For Christ.
Twenty-two businesses took part, providing details about their services, job openings and contact information, and fathering applications and resumes.
At least 100 job-seekers attended, with about 60 arriving during the first hour, said Kari Hatt, executive director of SACC.
It was the first fair of its kind presented by the chamber of commerce since Hatt has been on-board. Sponsors were Abbott, Burr Oak Tool, GT Independence, Sturgis Bank and Stutzman Brothers Meats.
As an additional service, representatives from Michigan Works held a session prior to the main event to assist prospective employees with resume-development, interview skills and resourcing. About 20 people took advantage, Hatt said.
Another feature of the fair: Employers reps took part in a discussion panel led by 18- to 24-year-olds, who discussed what it’s like to be “Gen Z” in the workforce.
Hatt was pleased with results of the inaugural fair, achieving the overall goal of connecting workers with local employers.
“I feel like this successful for first go at it,” she said.
