MCBAIN – McBain traveled to Pine River on Wednesday in a battle of two undefeated boys basketball teams with the Ramblers enjoying a 77-47 victory.
McBain, which had a three-point loss to Cadillac 36-33 on Monday, is 7-1.
Pine River is 8-2.
“First off McBain is a very good team, I certainly don’t want to take anything away from them, but I was very disappointed in our execution,” Bucks head coach Brian Goodenow said. “We let them have exactly what they want.”
Evan Haverkamp scored 13 points in the first quarter for the Ramblers for a 25-6 lead. It was 42-25, Ramblers, at halftime.
McBain poured on the pressure to begin the second half, extending their lead to 62-39 heading into the fourth and coasted to a 30-point victory.
McBain’s Evan Haverkamp scored 25 points, with Claydon Ingleright adding 13 for the Ramblers. Darion Pena had eight points. Scoring six points were Nate Koetje, Clayton Heuker and Carson Murphy.
“I thought we were sluggish sometimes,” McBain coach Bruce Koopman said. “Offensively we were fine. We could have done better with better defense. We picked up some bad habits tonight. We got everyone in the game, everyone got good minutes and everyone is healthy and we’re moving forward.”
McBain plays Tuesday at Houghton Lake.
Eli Smith led the Bucks in scoring with 11 points.
