Cynthia G. (Hemstreet) Mayes, age 75 of Mt. Pleasant, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023 at The Laurels of Mt. Pleasant assisted living facility. Cindy was born the second of four children to Jack and Romagne (Perry) Hemstreet on Christmas Day, 1947 in Mt. Pleasant. Cindy was a lifelong resident of the Central Michigan area, having been a graduate of the Clare High School Class of 1965. Shortly after her graduation, Cindy enrolled in beauty college and went on to her achieve her certificate in cosmetology—a career that she continued for twenty years. Cindy was an avid knitter and a lifelong football fan. Those that knew her well, knew of her greatest passion for music—especially the oldies.
Cynthia is survived by her two sons Bryan and Aaron Mayes, both of whom reside in Mt. Pleasant, her brothers Don and Jack Hemstreet, her sister Sheila Hemstreet, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Jack and Romagne Hemstreet.
In keeping with Cindy’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private graveside service will take place at the Cherry Grove Cemetery of Clare where Cindy will be laid to rest near her family. Online condolences may be shared at www.stephenson-wyman.com
