MATTAWAN – The atmosphere at the Antwerp Township Senior Center was filled with gratitude and a strong sense of community as Mattawan Consolidated School students gathered to honor local veterans for Veterans Day.
Students were thrilled to be guests at a luncheon hosted by Antwerp Township Senior Services. Mattawan Boy Scout Troop 161 took part to post the colors at the veterans’ celebration. A beautiful rendition of the National Anthem, sung by Mattawan Consolidated School’s Muse Choir, filled the room with pride and patriotism, setting the tone for the rest of the luncheon.
The courage, sacrifice, and the importance of freedom. His words echoed deep gratitude for the sacrifices made by those who have served our country. His words of appreciation were met with warm smiles and nods from the veterans.
A trumpeter from Boy Scout Troop 161 sounded Taps as a moment of remembrance. The students were honored to be guests at Antwerp Township and valued the opportunity to be in the presence of local heroes.
Antwerp Township Senior Services Administrator Karol Chopp, said, “It was a very emotional ceremony and the seniors love it when the students come and get involved!”
