MARION – Marion’s undefeated 8-player football team will be hosting a Division 2 8-player state semifinal game on Saturday against Lake Linden-Hubbell.
Marion is 10-0 after last week’s 48-6 over Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart.
Sacred Heart ended its season at 9-2.
“We played a great game defensively,” Marion coach Chad Grundy said. “Sacred Heart was scoring over 40 points a game and to hold them to six was great to see. We were really physical all game and got lots of pressure on the quarterback. On offense Cole Meyer was a workhorse running for over 200 yards. Gavin Prielipp made many big plays all over the field.”
Marion had quarter leads of 12-0, 26-6 and 48-6. It was a scoreless fourth period.
Colin Mccrimmon had a 1-yard rush for a touchdown and Prielipp a 24-yard scoring run for Marion in the first quarter.
Prielipp had a 60-yard interception return in the second quarter. Cole Meyer had a 30-yard run and Prielipp caught a 49-yard pass from McCrimmon.
In the third quarter, Prielipp had touchdown runs of 30 and 15 yards. McCrimmon had a 5-yard TD run.
Net rushing yards was 298 for Marion and minus 18 for Sacred Heart. Meyer rushed for 198 yards and Prielipp for 68 to lead Marion. Prielipp also had two interceptions.
The game against Lake Linden-Hubbell, located north of Houghton the western Upper Peninsula, starts at 1 p.m. LL-H is 8-3 overall after a 37-18 win over state power North Central.
