School’s finance committee updates project progress, outlines recommendations for funding

Sturgis Public Schools finance committee met Oct. 12 and outlined funding and scheduling recommendations and revised a project list for the 2023-24 academic year.
Members present were superintendent Art Ebert; board of education members Ben Myers, Betsie Drumm and Kerri Millett; and Ray Sterling, director of finance.
Recommendation:

  • Move the district-wide clock project to the 2024-25 academic year.
  • Move the Sturgis Middle School flooring and painting project from the public improvement fund to the building and site sinking fund.
  • Fund the middle school tennis court project (including a 5% contingency and final design work) mainly through the public improvement fund, with $300,000 coming from the building and site sinking fund.
The recommendation will fully fund all projects and maintain positive balances in both funds for both 2023-24 and 2024-25, Sterling said.
