Obituary: Helen Marie Dorcey

Helen Marie Dorcey, age 90, of Farwell, went to her home in Heaven on October 16, 2023. Helen was born in Copemish, Michigan on July 23, 1933, the daughter of Enil and Martha (Sarenius) Lehto. She attained a Masters Degree and while attending Central Michigan University, Helen met her future husband, Tom, who preceded her in death on January 28, 2023. Together, they made their home in Frankenmuth for 40 years raising four sons and they were inseparable.

Helen and Tom were Charter Members of the UMC in Frankenmuth since 1962 and served in many capacities. After retiring from the work force, they moved “up north” in 2000 making their home in White Birch Lakes in Clare County where they continued their activities and serving the community in many ways such as: members of Farwell UMC; volunteering and fund raising for Mid-Michigan Hospital for 20 years; camping with family and church members; international travel on cruises; square dancing; Helen loved jigsaw puzzles, played piano, photography and was also involved in the  Red Hats Society, United Methodist Women and numerous committees.

Helen is survived by her sons: Charles Dorcey Jr. and his wife Elizabeth of College Park, MD., Timothy of Santa Monica, CA., Paul Dorcey of Chelsea, MI., and Stanley and his wife Carol of Prospect Heights; seven beloved grandchildren: Eric (Robyn) Dorcey, Christopher Dorcey, Kyle Dorcey, Nicole Dorcey, Marlo Dorcey, Wallis Dorcey and Flannery Dorcey; a brother, Carl (Suzane) Lehto of Traverse City, MI; and a sister, Lila Gerber of Owosso, MI. Helen was also preceded in death by a brother, George Lehto.

A celebration of life service is planned for Helen on Friday, October 20, 2023 at 11 AM at Farwell United Methodist Church. Pastor Ray Francis will officiate. Family and friends may visit from 10 to 11 AM prior to the service. Please consider contributions in Helen’s name to Farwell United Methodist Church, envelopes will be made available at the church and www.Campbell-FH.com. Arrangements were entrusted to Campbell Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Helen’s cremated remains will be scattered next to her husband, Tom, in the Memorial Garden at Lake Louise Christian Camp, a place that was also dear to her heart. In 2001, a summer program called Horizons, especially for folks over 50, offering to spend a week in a cabin, in the woods, was created. Helen and Tom attended for 10 years, creating happy memories of campfires, hiking, canoeing, Bible studies and Christian fellowship were made.
