Obituary: Grover Cleveland DeForest Jr.

Grover Cleveland DeForest, Jr. – age 87 of Lake passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Mid-Michigan Medical Center-Midland.  Grover was born on December 25, 1935, in Lansing, Michigan to parents Grover, Sr. and Elsie (Woodems) DeForest.  He graduated in 1976 from Holt High School. On December 14th, 1962, he married his best friend, Marilyn Tebo in Angola, Indiana.  He married into a family of four small children and his own son became a part of his new family.  He and Marilyn moved to Eight Point Lake and built their home from the ground up. They lived there for over 30 years.  He and Marilyn became members of the Farwell United Methodist Church. He was a salesman in Lansing until 1977, when he applied for a corrections officer position with the State of Michigan. He worked in the Corrections System in Jackson, Michigan and moved through the ranks and became a sergeant.  Grover loved to hunt, fish camp and just generally loved the outdoors. Grover proudly served with the United States Army, serving in France as an MP. Grover is survived by his children, Steven Craig DeForest and wife Dianne of Lake, Joseph Lee Deforest and wife Jo of Lansing, Tom Dutton of Otsego, Vicky Stegall of Woodland, MI, nine grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, and sister JoEllen Polock and husband Orley of Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife Marilyn in 2019, daughter Cindy Smith, and daughter-in-law Connie Dutton.  A funeral service is planned for Monday, October 16th at 11AM at the Campbell Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Friends and family may visit at the Funeral Home from 9AM until the time of service.  Pastor Connie Bongard will officiate.  A Celebration of Life Service will follow at the Deepdale Memorial Gardens Chapel in Lansing Michigan at 3PM.  Grover’s family wishes to thank special friends Mark & Margo, Ron & Nancy, Dick Larson, Nancy Schofield and Nancy Eisenhower. Please consider memorial donations to American Legion Post#558 in lieu of flowers. Arrangements have been entrusted to Campbell Funeral Home & Cremation Services.  408 W.
