“Sturgis BBQ Fest” took place Sept. 30 in downtown Sturgis. It was presented by Sturgis Downtown Development Authority, part of the organization’s fall entertainment lineup for 2023.
Ryan Conrod, event coordinator at DDA, was pleased with turnout.
“The event was well-attended with perfect weather,” Conrod said Wednesday.
Nine competitors vied for barbecue-related prizes. Hoosier BBQ won the main award, with Brewhouse BBQ of Sturgis finishing second. People’s Choice went to Dine and Dash of White Pigeon.
Denver won Best of Show in the beard competition.
Other non-barbecue vendors included, Dougie’s Hot Dogs, Freddy’s Food Hut and Mamazzoni’s.
Country Current of Muskegon performed live music, including popular country and classic rock selections.
Also featured at BBQ Fest were a classic car cruise-in, bounce house, face-painting and pumpkin-painting.
The next DDA event is “Chocolate in the City,” Nov. 17. Boxes will be available for purchase within a few weeks, Conrod said. Check the Downtown Sturgis, Michigan on Facebook or Sturgis247.com for details.
