Mattawan tennis team wins another title

MATTAWAN – Matt Boven’s Mattawan boys tennis team brought home the South Michgian Athletic Conference title this weekend.
“The boy’s tennis team peaked at the right time and brought home another SMAC championship,” Bovens said. “Every single flight contributed which was the key to the Wildcats winning their 4th consecutive SMAC title. Semifinalists include Caleb Goodrich and Gavin McCain at 3 doubles and Matthew Engel and Bradley Ko at 4 doubles. Nolan Ackerman also reached the semifinals at 1 singles.
“Dylan Hodgman made it all the way to the finals at 4 singles while 4 flights won SMAC championships. The 4 flight champions are Jacob Hodgman at 2 singles, Garrett Cheng at 3 singles, Andrew Williams and Tanner Segraves at 1 doubles and Connor Schultz and Alan Muresan at 2 doubles.”
Boven added: “The work is not done as the Wildcats will head to the Detroit area to battle top ranked opponents on Monday.”

Cross country
Mattawan boys were eighth among nine teams on Saturday at the Otsego Bulldog Invitational.
Owen Fisher was 28th (16:51.8) and Marcl Stork 31st (17:04.32).
The Mattawan girls were ninth, led by Kali Bunce 17th (20:09.48) and Natalie Barron 32nd (20:48.82).
