June Geraldine Pond Emmons– age 103 of Farwell passed away at North Woods Nursing Center on Wednesday, September 6, 2023. June was born on May 24, 1920, in her parents’ farmhouse just outside of Mendon, Ohio. She was the older of two girls born to John Wilson Pond, a WWI vet, and his wife Lily Letitia Schwarck. When the marriage collapsed, the young girls went to live with their mother’s parents. One Sunday night in 1925 the sheriff arrived to forcibly remove June, age 5, and Lily Delight, age 4 from their maternal grandparents. Their father had petitioned for their care, and they were taken to live with his parents, the Pond family in Celina, Ohio. The Pond family loved them and took good care of them. Their father was employed by Ford Motor Company and would visit the girls every three weeks. When Lily graduated from High School the girls moved to southwest Detroit with their father. June was hired by Revere Copper and Brass and was working in the office when WWII broke out. After the war June met Charles Robert Emmons (BOB) in 1948 was married to her sweetheart on June 11, 1949. June and Bob moved to their first home that wasn’t an apartment on Monroe Street in Taylor, Michigan. Together they raised their children which were incidentally “fur babies” named Mike, Mickey, Gidget, D.J., and Lil Bit. June was a wonderful second mother to Lily’s children who lived nearby in Allen Park; her nieces and nephew: Judi, Patricia, Randy, Chrissy, and Cheryl who always referred to her as NUNIE. In June of 1978 they sold their home in Taylor and moved North to Bob’s parents’ home in Lake. Bob died suddenly of a heart attack and June had a very difficult time after his passing. Her beautiful sister Lily Baetz passed in 2007. June continued to live in Lake until December 2020 when she was stricken with the Covid Virus. She was unable to return to her apartment and was moved to North Woods Nursing Center to help with her care. She received the best care there and genuinely enjoyed her life there until September 6, 2023, when she died peacefully at the age of 103. She was fondly known as “June Bug”, “Miss June”, and of course “NUNIE” and will be greatly missed. June enjoyed many activities including Bingo, card playing, bowling, and dancing. She leaves behind a loving family: Judi (William) Kulchar of Livonia, Patricia D. Baetz of San Diego, CA. Dr. Randall (Patty) Baetz of Clarkston, Christine McCool of Kalkaska, and Chery (Patrick) Hejl of Elk Rapids, as well as 18 second and third generation nieces and nephews and her dear friend and companion Brian Shank of Farwell. June will be interred in Garfield Township Cemetery along side her husband Bob and will be honored as a lifetime member of the Eagles and the Women’s Auxillary at their Aerie. A graveside service will take place at noon at the cemetery and a luncheon honoring June at 1PM on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at the Eagles. 8460 Ludington Dr. Lake, Michigan 48632. Please consider memorials in honor of June to the Eagles Aerie of Lake #3761 P>O>Box 191, Lake MI 48632. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Campbell Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 408 W.
