MARION – The Marion Village Council is looking to fill a vacancy.
“Sadly, there is a vacancy on the council due to the passing of one of our beloved council members, Don Gilmore,”council president Flora Grundy said. “This seat will need to be appointed to finish out his term which is set to end November 2024. If anyone living in the village would like to review the requirements and apply for the seat, they can pick up paperwork at the Village Hall.”
Deadline to have the Council Candidate form turned in is Sept. 29, at 3:30 p.m., Grundy said.
Jack Nehmer was appointed Mayor Pro Tem at the Sept. 11 meeting, as Don Gilmore was the previous Mayor pro Tem, Grundy noted. Nehmer is a former chairman of the Osceola County Board of Commissioners.
She commended Gilmore for all his work to the village and beyond.
“It was very sad to lose him, as he was so involved in the community serving in many capacities,” she said. “His roots are deep here and I know his heart was too.
“We will be doing some sort of memorial tree or garden in his honor. We will have a plaque put there and do a dedication ceremony.”
Grundy said more details will be provided later.
