Mike’s Musings: Musk vs Zuckerberg – tell me the fight is on

The popularity of UFC has eclipsed boxing and kickboxing ten-fold. I can remember going to my first local match about fifteen years ago. It was in a ballroom, and there wasn’t a seat to be had. Local fighters, our friends and neighbors got into the ring, after a few months training and scrapped until one submitted, or the fight went its length and judges decided the winner. Fans jumped up and down screaming at their child to do better or their opponent to submit. To be honest, it was a rather ugly scene.
The fight club atmosphere of those days has come a long way. Now octagon fighting is much more sophisticated and has recruited the best fighters who train for months to get the opportunity to fight on the big stage. The very best fight before huge television audiences and earn millions of dollars per fight.
Dana White, the genius behind it all is the top dog at UFC, and is largely responsible for the sport’s rise in popularity. Much like boxing, there are several weight classes and a host of world champions. Fighters compete from all corners of the world utilizing boxing and martial arts skills.
But now the sport might be taking another turn. The richest man in the world Elon Musk has challenged the tenth richest man Mark Zuckerberg to a match in the octagon. Much like the early 1800’s these two may duel, not with guns, but with their fists and legs, as they fight for social media dominance.
You heard it right. Musk and Zuckerberg have both accepted the cage match fight, promoted by Dana White and to be held in Las Vegas later in the year. White has proclaimed he will charge $100 for one to see it on Pay Per View and expects the fight to gross three times more than the previous highest grossing fight- Mayweather versus McGregor.
Apparently, this is no joke. The 51-year-old Musk, who is taller and heavier, aims to fight the younger, nimbler Zuckerberg. The purse will go to the charities of their choice and could exceed a billion dollars.
In the past, several celebrities have gotten into the boxing ring to fight equally out of shape peers. It was entertaining stuff but after awhile the thought of two overweight men punching one another got boring and a shrinking audience forced TV networks to cancel such shows.
However, Musk vs Zuckerberg could revive this. Instead of fighting with words, maybe Trump and Biden could settle their differences in the ring. If not them, what about their sons, Hunter vs Eric Trump? Or the so-called very fit Putin could put on the gloves against the younger Zelenskyy. The winner would get Eastern Ukraine.
Imagine the money to be made from Trump vs Biden or Putin vs Zelenskyy. Heck if put to good use it could go a long way in putting a dent in world poverty. We may begin to admire our leaders again if they jump in the octagon to raise money for charitable causes. Or again, it may all be a ruse, perpetuated by Musk and Zuckerburg. I guess we will find out soon

  1. Great article. I wonder if it will really happen. They could earn some serious money for charity.

  2. You insist on making apples and oranges comparisons. You still continue with the misguided notion that the invasion of Ukraine was somehow not a blatant power grab by Putin. But then again you seem to be a Putine fan. Then there’s Don the Con would pee his pants before ever getting in the ring because the refs were rigged. His massive ego would never allow a defeat. And as far as Musk and Zuckerberg how about you get in the ring also. We’d then get the bombast fight of the century. Hot air would abound.
