April 3, 1928 – June 6, 2023

Mary Frances Hearn, 95 of Allegan, passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.  Born April 3, 1928 in Old Fort, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late James and Mattie (Portrum) Brown and the wife of the late Joseph Hearn.  Mary was a spirited woman who loved her family fiercely.  Though loving, she was known for keeping them all on the straight and narrow, never allowing for excuses.  She guided them with love and understanding.  Mary was a member of Grace Temple in Allegan, and also a member of TOPS.  Baking and cooking were two things that made Mary happy.  She enjoyed providing for her family and friends.  Some of her favorite activities were gardening and going to the casinos, as well as watching Wheel of Fortune and Family Feud.  Being around people was easy for Mary.  She was known to be a person who never met a stranger since anyone she met always seemed to become a friend.  The many years that Mary lived on this earth, allowed her to continually show her family how important they were and how much she loved them.

Surviving is her daughter, Mattie Irwin; her grandchildren, Sandra Ewing, Bridget Newell, Sammie Johnson, Anthony Johnson, Mary Jo (Jody) Berry, Joe Henton and Derrick Henton; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a host of niece and nephews, cousins and friends; as well as her extend family, the Hunters.

Along with her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her daughter, Lula Henton; and sister, Alice Gilbert.

Friends may meet with the family at Gorden Funeral Residence on Thursday, June 15, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, with the Funeral Service beginning at 12:00 PM, Pastor Adrian Hall officiating.  Mary will be laid to rest in Oakwood Cemetery.  The family wishes to thank Wings of Hope Hospice and the Wings Home for their wonderful care of Mary during her illness.
