MCBAIN – Collin DeKam was a man of many talents for McBain Northern Michigan’s track team this season.

He was on the 2 x400 and 4×400 relay teams which both went to the state finals. The 4×400 was all-state with a sixth-place performance.

He was also a thrower. He was sixth in the Highland Conference meet with a toss of 39 feet, 3 inches. He was sixth in the league meet in the discus with a throw of 115-0.

“This was my first year doing track,” DeKam said. “The biggest highlights have been PRing a lot. I think I enjoy the discus the most.”

His throw of 115 was a personal record.

“The key was keeping my hand in a position where the disc lies flat,” DeKam said.

He said the two relays are about the same.

“The key is tight handoffs,” he said.

He also did basketball and cross country.

“I guess I enjoy basketball the most,” he said.
