The Paw Paw Knights of Columbus hosted the Area 17 Special Olympic team last Wednesday, May 31, at their hall. The team was treated to a lunch and afterward, given an escort by members of the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, Paw Paw Police and Fire departments, and Van Buren Emergency Medical Services through downtown as they made their way to Interstate 94, enroute to Mount Pleasant for the Summer State Games. The athletes competed in volleyball, bocce ball, swimming and track and field. They returned home with 30 gold, 39 silver, 24 bronze medals, as well as 11 fourth place, 14 fifth place and six, sixth place ribbons. The Paw Paw Knights of Columbus expressed its thanks to the community and public safety teams for their support of the event, as well as Family Fare for its donation to the luncheon.
