Obituary: Esther Narlene Goodrich

Esther Narlene Goodrich, 96, of Lawrence, passed away Saturday, May 6, 2023, peacefully at her home in Lawrence. She was born June 15, 1926, in Quincy, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Edward Lundahl and Ida June (Clifford) Lundahl.
Esther lived a full life rich faith and family. She was a devoted Christian and enjoyed spending time with her church family. She loved to sing at church. Her favorite hymns were “In the Garden” and “Blessed Assurance.” She also joined her church family on many trips over the years. Esther was an amazing homemaker, known for her large spreads of homemade foods and desserts for family dinners and events. She would always make sure she had plenty of canned food on hand for the winter. Esther also enjoyed crafting items, sewing, and crocheting. Family was at the center of Esther’s heart. She cherished the time spent with her children and grandchildren. She and her husband would always make sure their family was taken care of. When her kids were younger, they always looked forward to the last day of school as Esther took them fishing to celebrate the start of their summer vacation on that day. They also enjoyed many road trips and camping trips over the years. Her love for family extended to her love for animals. Esther had a fondness for lighthouses and loved showing off her collection to family and friends.
On Feb. 6, 1946, she married Harold Goodrich, who preceded her in death.
She is survived by her eight children, Don (Jane) Goodrich of Marcellus, Ron (Juanita) Goodrich of Rock Island, IL, five daughters, Alma Donelson of Phoenix, AZ, Naomi Chavez of Lawrence, Patty Wheeler of Decatur, Nancy (Steve) Huston, Essy (Bruce) Goss of Paw Paw, and Harold (Rona) Goodrich of Paw Paw; 26 grandchildren, along with many great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dolores (Rock) Graziano, Sally (Chris) Robinson, Ginny Lundahl and Norma Jean Lundahl.
In addition to her husband, Esther was preceded in death by her sons, Richard and Harvey Goodrich, and her sisters, Ruth, Marie, Arlene and June.
Family and friends were invited to visit Friday, May 12, at The Church of Jesus Christ, 121 East Saint Mary St., Decatur, where a funeral service was held with Bishop Randell Spence officiating. Burial was at Hill Cemetery, Lawrence.
