Obituary: Katherine “Kay” (Casey) Gordon

Katherine “Kay” (Casey) Gordon, age 94, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023.  She was a resident of Clare since 1976 until her move to the Village of Rosebush Manor.  Katherine was the daughter of the late Thomas and Marguerite Casey and the beloved wife of the late Paul Gordon who preceded her in death in 2004.  Katherine was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Beverly, MA and received her undergraduate at Emmanuel College in Boston and her Masters Degree at Michigan State University; however, she was a loyal University of Michigan fan.

     Katherine was a nun for 15 years with the Sisters of Notre Dame. In 1967, she resigned as an elementary teacher with the Ann Arbor Public Schools to marry Paul and together raise his 8 children.  She was loved endlessly by Paul and she dearly loved her family.

     Katherine is survived by her children Marianne (Ross) Frank of Leavenworth, WA., Gregory (Mercy) Gordon of Medford, Or., Teresa Brigham of Coleman, Anita Gordon of Mt. Pleasant, Julie (Tom) Wyman of Empire, Laura Gordon of Midland and John (Vickey) Gordon of Weidman, and her daughter-in-law, Karen Klever of Chelsea.  She also is survived by 16 grandchildren, several great grandchildren; as well as many loved nieces and nephews and her special friends Hilda Sharp and Jan Newman.

     Katherine was preceded in death by her son Timothy Klever and siblings, Dara Casey, Sheila Pennisi, Thomas J. Casey S.J., Moira Casey and Ellen Hoy.

     Katherine touched many lives as an educator and volunteer for over 50 years.  She was a faithful member of St. Henry’s and St. Cecilia Catholic Church.  She had also been a member of GFWC and Study Club.  Katherine was a talented watercolor artist, loved to golf, playing Scrabble with Paul, the beach and spending winters in Indian Rocks Beach, Florida.

     The family will be eternally grateful for the loving and compassionate care she received from the staff of Rosebush Manor and Hospice of Michigan.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 12 noon at St. Cecilia Catholic Church, Our Lady of Hope Parish with Monsignor Francis Koper officiating.  Visitation will be held prior beginning at 11 A.M..  Burial will take place in the St. Henry’s Catholic Cemetery.  Memorial contributions in Honor of Katherine may be made to her son John’s medical recovery, checks may be made payable to his wife, Vickey Newman .  Arrangements were handled by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Home.  On-line condolences may be left at www.stephenson-wyman.com
