Obituary: Janet Ann Shippee

Janet Ann Shippee, age 80, born and raised in Owosso, died on April 20, 2023 in her home in Clare.  Born on July 7th, 1942, she was the second eldest of eight children.  She was proceeded into Heaven by her mother and father, Margaret and T. Andrew Shippee, and her best friend and elder brother, James.

As the surviving eldest, Jan had no children of her own, but was the “second mother” to her sisters: Molly (John) Fagan, Joan (Jim) Roddy, Rita (ED) Dunn, Susan (Rod) Walker, Sally (Jim) Pankewicz, and Anne Shippee.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, ands great nieces and nephews, and was also a “second mother” to all of them.  Jan exemplified Christ’s words, “Let the little children Come unto Me”.  She was always ready with hugs, candy, and love.

Jan was a constant support, a voice of reason, and always included a healthy degree of skepticism.  Her Catholic devotion, barefoot walks down the family lane, and love of her family and small children were the greatest joys of her life.  She will always be greatly missed.

A Funeral Mass to Celebrate Jan will be held on Saturday, Apr. 29, at 11 AM at the St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Clare with Msgr. Francis Koper presiding.  Friends may meet with the family at the church from 10 to 11 AM. The Rosary will be recited at the church at 9:30 AM. The family is being served by the Clare Chapel of Stephenson-Wyman Funeral Homes.  If you are unable to attend, you are invited to leave her family an online condolence message on Jan’s page at www.stephenson-wyman.com
