Lady Rebels Softball
The Chambers Academy Lady Rebels hosted their last regular season game against Hooper Academy. Foster took the mound for the Lady Rebels and was on her way to three up and three down in the first until Hooper’s Kaylee Midkiff homered on a fly ball to center field. Chambers tied it up in the bottom of the inning after McKenzie Gilliland reached on a dropped third strike and Foster hit her in on a double.
In the bottom of the third, the Lady Rebels took the lead 3-1 after Carley Forbus, Gilliland, and Foster all hit singles. Foster recorded the two RBIs. Hooper’s Midkiff once again homered in the top of the fourth to cut Chambers’ lead 3-2.
Hooper managed five runs in the top of the fifth, which was plagued by errors for the Lady Rebels. Chambers posted one run, an RBI double by Brylee Alford, in the bottom of the fifth.
The Lady Rebels regained their composure in the field in the sixth and added another run in the bottom of the inning on a Gilliland RBI single. Raeleigh Patterson added the final score, knocking in Foster after she doubled. However, the Lady Rebels came up just short, falling 6-7.
Rebels Baseball
Chambers Baseball hosted Hooper Academy three times last week. They rounded out their regular season on Monday and then, fought the Colts in the first round of the playoffs in a best of three series.
Tied 2-2, the Rebels posted a big third inning earning 7 runs as Peyton Yerta, Braxton Yerta, Landon Hand, and Evan Arwood all singled while Buster Coker and AJ Barnes hit doubles. Chambers won the game in the bottom of the fifth 12-2.
In the playoff series, Luke Tarver, Grey Hayley, Braxton Yerta, Peyton Yerta, and Drew Sheppard all posted hits in the second inning to put Chambers up 6-0. Barnes added 2 more runs in the third on a double. Coker, Eli Pritchard, and Sheppard hit singles to end the game in the fourth 11-0.
Kyle Hand got the win on the mound, striking out six of sixteen batters faced while allowing four hits and no runs.
With the Colts up 2-3 in the top of the fifth, the Rebels had to battle back, posting 3 runs in the top of sixth. Not giving up, Hooper tied it at 5 all in the bottom of the sixth. Drew Sheppard got the rally for the Rebels going when he hit a two run homer on a fly ball to center field. Barnes added an RBI single while Braxton Yerta tripled to drive in the final run of the game, and Chambers advanced to the second round on a 10-5 win.
