Obituary: Tex Marland Lavoye

Tex Marland LaVoye age 86 of Clare, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, March 25, 2023. Tex was born June 7, 1936, in Clare, Michigan the youngest of ten children to Lewis and Mabel (Sieting) LaVoye. Tex resided in Clare County most of his life, living in Isabella County for a brief time, and majority in Farwell, Harrison, and Clare. Tex was united in marriage to Ms. Leona Eleanor Atkinson on October 25, 1958, in Clare. Leona preceded Tex in death on September 1, 2016, after fifty-seven years of marriage.

    Tex was a farmer for most of his life. He raised beef cattle and dairy cows. When not working on the farm, Tex enjoyed smelt dipping, hunting, caring for and spoiling his grandchildren, reading old western novels, watching old western television shows, especially if John Wayne appeared in them and listening to old country music.

            Surviving Tex are his five children: David LaVoye of Harrison, Diann Turnwald and husband Tony of Harrison, Keith LaVoye and wife Tammy of Hersey, Michigan, Kevin LaVoye of Clare, and Karen Owens and husband Matt of Clare, eight loving grandchildren: Cody LaVoye, Amanda LaVoye, Taylor Owens, Keagen Owens, Logan Owens, Alannah Turnwald, Daina Turnwald, Shelbi Valencia and husband Chris and Sarah Alexander, ten great-grandchildren, one sister, Lola Scarborough of Cadillac, Michigan, plus many nieces, nephews and extended family. Tex also was preceded in death by his parents, five sisters and three brothers.

            Celebration of Life services for Tex will be held at Grant Township Hall 3022 East Surrey Road, Clare, Michigan 48617 on Saturday, April 29,2023 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Memorial gifts in memory of Tex may be considered to the LaVoye Family.
