Pat’s Bits and Pieces: Enough snow already!

April will arrive Saturday.

It’s snowing again…

I think we are paying for all of the nice weather we had at the end of February and the beginning of March.

Actually February, my least favorite month of the year, went by pretty fast this time, but this year it’s March that seems to be dragging on..and on…

We have already had all of the first signs of spring: rain, (flooding), potholes, and unbelievably messy roads, robins in the yard, disappearing snow banks, and a few warm sunny days. Seems like it is time for the flowers to start growing by now, but here we go again.

It’s 30 degrees out there today (Wednesday) and windy and cold and I got up to snow again.

The weather report isn’t very promising either – snow flurries, cold, and snow flurries and cold. I shouldn’t complain so much, ‘cause we could have gotten 8 to 12 inches of that stuff like they just did in the east.

Sounds like I need a vacation, doesn’t it?

Jack says we need to take a mini-vacation, just get away for the weekend. Unfortunately that’s not going to happen because he has a whole long list of spring chores he wants to do – if it ever warms up and quits spitting snowflaked…

I wonder how far south we could get in a couple of days…? Lots of people around town are either just leaving or just getting back from someplace warm – you know, where bathing suits and shorts are the clothing of choice. I would sure like to join them.

Oh well, maybe next year…

We did get a little break from this unending month.

The Irish Festival, although unseasonably, bitterly cold, and extremely busy, was still fun. There sure was a lot going on around Clare for this year’s event. We have a kind of “photo gallery” last week’s edition.

Because of the cold weather and a bout with the flu I was getting over, personally we really didn’t get to do much this year.

Somehow I managed to catch the “bug” twice during the month and each time felt miserable for about ten days.

To build up my stamina and relieve some back issues I have been having I have been going to therapy sessions twice a week too. Well that’s what I was supposed to do.

I had to cancel five (not all at once), but that just about got me kicked out of the exercise program…

Enough complaining. March is over as of today (Friday) and April arrives tomorrow. Surely that will mean some warmer weather, buds on the trees, and maybe a flower here and there.

In any case it has to be spring sometime, right?

April, that rainy, muddy, wonderful month is here again.

Time to think about planting things for spring.

Time to think about cleaning up. You notice I said “think” about it.

Time to sit in the sunshine whenever you can.

Time to look for crocus and tulips peeking through the dead leaves from last fall.

Time to watch the tips of the trees show first buds, then tiny red leaves, then tiny green ones.

Time to check some lilac bushes for the first signs of flowers. That is what I want to plant this year.

Time to watch the birds chase each other through the treetops.

Time to put away those winter clothes and get out the stuff for spring.

OOPS, the stuff for spring doesn’t fit!

Unfortunately, summer is going to be here before too long, and I will have to put away the sweaters and heavy clothes, and either buy a new – larger wardrobe or stay inside through October…

If you haven’t already guessed, I have put on a bit of weight this winter.

Even though it was one of my New Year’s Resolutions, and I am exercising “semi” regularly, I am not seeing the weight come off very fast these days.

Someone used to tell me they weren’t overweight, they were just under-tall. That’s definitely my problem.

All this thinking and talking about weight is making me hungry and my resident house hubby just took something delicious smelling out of the oven.

Time to close up this home office for the day, and sample the goodies.

I will exercise tomorrow…
