City of Plainwell residents will soon have another option when it comes to staying active and achieving their fitness goals.
On Wednesday, March 22, city officials announced it had been awarded $40,000 from Priority Health and National Fitness Campaign (NFC) as part of the 2023 Priority Health Wellness campaign.
The $40,000 is conditionally awarded as additional local funding is secured by the City.
“This is an exciting project for Plainwell because it promotes fitness and well-being for the public at large,” Plainwell community development director Denise Siegel said. “I hope it becomes a community gathering space where public fitness classes can happen and everyone can use and benefit from it.”
Priority Health began its partnership with NFC in 2019 with the goal of making world-class fitness free and accessible in open public spaces to residents of Michigan.
The campaign is designed to activate public spaces by connecting trails, well-placed pedestrian infrastructure and community meeting points with the world’s best outdoor gym—The Fitness Court—that brings free, world-class fitness to everyone.
The Fitness Court is a state-of-the-art, digitally connected platform for adults of all ages, abilities, and fitness levels to develop healthy habits and maintain long-term wellness to fight the obesity epidemic.
The award-winning Fitness Court makes world-class fitness free and accessible for healthy communities. Plainwell plans to build its Fitness Court in Sherwood Park given its status as a highly visible and active area in the community.
Plainwell has committed to raising $115,000 in funding with their local match as part of the project. To raise those funds, Plainwell is seeking support from local sponsors and donors who may want to participate in this program and support the remaining funding requirements.
Local sponsors and donors to this initiative will see themselves recognized in the following ways: on the Fitness Court; through regional and statewide promotions; on the free mobile Fitness Court App; and in a fun-filled launch event later this year.
Limited local sponsorship opportunities for the program are now being made available, and Plainwell officials look forward to connecting with organizations that want to support the final funding required to bring this wellness initiative to the city.
