LeRoy Douglas Maltby, 79 of Allegan, MI sadly left us on March 13, 2023. Doug was born on December 28th, 1943 in Lawrence, MI; the son of Harriet Sanborn Maltby and LeRoy Maltby, Jr. Doug was a familiar face to many in the Allegan community where he provided haircuts to thousands of people during his 60 year career as a barber. Doug was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed waterfowl and upland bird hunting as well as training dogs in obedience, following commands, and bird retrieval. Doug was a founding member of the Allegan Chapter of Ducks Unlimited and served for over 30 years as a committee member. When he wasn’t in the field or the barbershop, you’d likely find Doug on a golf course as he loved the sport of golf as well.
He leaves behind his wife, Darla Maltby; his son, Richard (Kay) Maltby; step-sister, Rebecca (Ken) Hill; step-daughters Bobbi (Brandon) Love and Kerri (Jodi) DeJonge; his step-son, Jimmy (Sarah) DeJonge; 5 grandchildren; one great grandchild and his dog, Stella. Following his passing, he generously became a Gift of Life donor. Per his wishes, he will be cremated.
Visitation for Doug will be held on Friday, March 24th from 5pm to 7pm at Gorden Funeral Residence in Allegan. Donations in Doug’s memory may be made to GiftofLife.org (checks written to Gift of Life Foundation, 3861 Research Park Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108-2217) or to Allegan Chapter Ducks Unlimited (checks written to Ducks Unlimited and sent to Ducks Unlimited c/o Allegan Ducks Unlimited, 1 Waterfowl Way, Memphis, TN 38120); otherwise, either may be dropped off to Gorden Funeral Residence and they will send on your behalf.
