Obituary: Molly Baker, 93

Molly Angela Baker, 92, of Saugatuck and Key Largo, Fla. passed away on March 5, 2023.
Molly was born on May 6, 1930 to Marion and Angela Buttles in Zeeland. She and Mary were the first twins born in Zeeland Hospital. After graduating from Holland High School, then Hope College, she taught school before raising her children.
She knew her husband, William “Bill” Baker, since they were in the same grade together in Holland High School. They wed in 1955 at Hope Church, going on to raise two children, Chris Baker and Maggie Conklin. They were members of First Congregational Church of Saugatuck since they moved to Saugatuck in 1970.
Molly loved to travel and spent time on six of the seven continents. Some of her favorite places were Alaska, the Bahamas, Italy, Kenya, Ireland and Mackinac Island, but she always loved Saugatuck best.
She was a passionate painter. Many lucky people have one or more of her watercolor or oil paintings. She won art awards over the years and enjoyed going to destination art workshops around the U.S. and Europe.
Molly was predeceased by her parents, Marion and Angela Buttles; and sister, Mary Jordan. She is survived by her husband, Bill Baker; children, Chris Baker and Maggie (Ron) Conklin; several step-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery with a private graveside service. A public visitation is being planned for a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of Holland. Arrangements are by Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home. Condolences may be left online at www.langelandsterenberg.com.

  1. Bill, I’m so sorry about the death of our dear friend Molly, what a special person I had hoped she would live forever. It will not be the same without her. Bill you are also a special person and I’m looking forward to seeing you this summer. I’m so sad. Larry Wilson
