Youngster brings meth to school, parents arrested

LAWTON – A young child who brought a bag of methamphetamine to school led to the arrests of the youngster’s parents, according to a press release from the Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office.
Van Buren County Sheriff Daniel Abbott reported that on Feb. 27, at approximately 3 p.m., the Van Buren County Narcotics Unit was contacted by the Lawton Police Department to help with a drug
investigation. The Narcotics Unit was advised that a four-year-old child brought over 1.5
ounces of methamphetamine to school and had taken the bag out for snack time.
The Lawton Police Department was contacted by school officials to conduct the investigation. Detectives were able to identify the parents, a 31-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman, both of Lawton. The Lawton Police Department obtained a search warrant for the parents’ residence as well as the grandparents’ residence.
On March 1, at approximately 1 p.m., the Van Buren County SWAT team executed two search warrants simultaneously at both the parents’ house and the grandparents’ house. During the search of the parents’ house, a large amount of cocaine was located along with a digital scale. Both the father and the mother were transported to the Van Buren County Jail for drug related charges.
Detectives with the narcotics unit and Lawton Police continue to investigate how the child came into possession of the methamphetamine. Once the investigation is complete, it will be forwarded to the Van Buren County Prosecutor’s Office for review. CPS was contacted and the children were placed with family members at this time.
