Evelyn May Byron, 97 of Allegan, Michigan, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at Allegan County Medical Care Community. Born October 14, 1925, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the daughter of the late David F. and Louise (Nordquist) Carlson and the wife of the late Edwin Lloyd Byron. Evelyn grew up on a farm and encountered many of the traditional farm life chores; milking cows, feeding the animals, and helping with anything else that required her attention. As she got older and went to work, she spent time at Tru Heat and Atlantic Mills. She and her husband, Edwin, enjoyed raising their four children together and created a beautiful and loving home for them. Being known as a wonderful cook, Evelyn spent a good deal of her time cooking for her family. In her spare time, she enjoyed canning, gardening, bowling, bird watching, and golf, of which she won two championships at Cheshire Hills Golf Course. Together, Evelyn and Edwin had the best time on their camping trips with family and friends, convoying to their destination, along with fishing. Being a very active lady, one still found Evelyn mowing her own lawn at the age of 94. Life never slowed down and neither did Evelyn. She had a kind and generous heart and loved to spend time at the nursing home helping people with their putting game. Living 97 years young, Evelyn was a blessing to her family and always showed her deep love for them.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Vicki (Jim) Sebright, Karen (Jim) Robertson, Rex (Cindy) Byron, and Nancy (Pat) Ellis; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and her husband, Evelyn was preceded in death by her brother, David S. Carlson; and her sister, Florence Read.
The family will be celebrating Evelyn’s life with a private service and burial. They also wish to thank the staff of Allegan County Medical Care Community for their gentle and loving care of Evelyn during her stay there. Gorden Funeral Residence is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made in Evelyn’s name to Wings of Hope Hospice, (530 Linn St. Allegan, MI 49010) or Dementia Society of America at PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
